Yes, lots! Many companies have Research and Development departments, and they do exactly the same thing as university researchers, but for the business that employs them.

There are lots of science jobs not in universities. Any job that needs a logical observation based approach or data analysis ability is a lot like science and will hire scientists. Companies that need to test the little reflectors on the side of roads and the type of reflective material used in road signs need scientists. Companies that make washing powders need scientists to keep track of and control the production process. Hospital blood testing labs need scientists. Pharmaceutical companies need scientists. Water companies need scientists to test water quality and the purification process for providing us with clean drinking water. The police use scientists to help solve crimes. Science teachers are scientists. Food companies spend a LOT of money on research into food flavours and textures and need scientists to do this work. I know at least one moderator here at I’m a scientist was a scientist once. Scientists can end up doing work in public policy, advising governments and companies, they write about science in newspapers and magazines and they work in museums.
