I think I am most proud of getting my first degree, and also getting onto my PhD course.

It took a lot of time and effort to get my degree (particularly writing my dissertation), and getting onto my PhD was a real boost to my self esteem – lots of people applied for my position, but I got it! It was very validating for me as a person, and made me keen to start and do well!

I think I am proud of my overall approach towards learning. I have a constant desire to learn new things by reading, meeting people, experimenting etc.

I have realised that this desire has helped me achieve things both within and outside my field. It feels good to learn about science of course, but it is also good to sometimes learn about people, their lifestyles, different cultures, nature etc.

So the continued curiosity and desire towards learning is what I am proud of!

I am most proud of finishing my PhD. The process of doing a PhD is a difficult personal journey when you challenge yourself to learn a new field to the level of expert. At the same time you have to learn how to interpret the known information into theories that you can then design experiments to test in a rigorous and controlled manner. This is a tough challenge that often feels like its pointless or that you are failing to achieve anything for most of the process. This is very rough on your self esteem and motivation to do science. At the same time as doing all of this, I struggled with multiple health problems and some issues with being depressed. But despite all of this I STILL managed to finish and do a good job. Toughing it out and getting it done when I felt like a failure is what I am most proud of.
