Once a person is dead their body starts to decompose almost within several minutes of their death. In science, this term has been well known as self digestion of human corpse. Since, there is no oxygen being provided to your cells they tend to be influxed with toxic-chemicals which are generally kept out of them due to constant supply of oxygen.

This is followed by enzymes that start to nibble on cell membranes, disupting them enough to break the membranes down and cause the cell contents to leak out. Things are about to get worse at this stage with the corpse.

These damaged, broken, leaking cells then ooze out of the blood vessle and due to lack of movement in the body, gravity pulls them down and they setlle instead of circulating. This when you lose your skin colour or at least see it fading away and the corpse starts to look pale!

The speed and level of decomposition differs from person to person but overall the stages of decomposition remains the same. From gradual celllysis to organ collapse to bacterial growth and then larva being found on body depending on where the body is found .e..g dry, wet, humid, indoors, outdoors, in rain, in sun etc types of environmental settings.

With progressing time the body gets digested completely by the larva and the bacterial growth on it.
