      Electricity is the flow of charged particles call electrons. Its not something that didnt exist at one time and then did, more that we learnt how to generate, control and use it.

      Life has been using electricity for millions of years, as it is how our brains operate, and how we send messages like movement and receive messages like pain.

      Lightning is electricity and is a naturally occurring phenomena. Like Lewis said, its pretty much always been, but we have only recently learned how to harness its power.
